Email support@discobeat.app and a person reads it. The answers below cover most of what goes wrong in the first ten minutes.

It found no lights

• DiscoBeat needs Local Network access to see anything. If you declined the prompt, turn it on in the iPhone's Settings → DiscoBeat → Local Network.
• Your phone and the lights must be on the same Wi-Fi network. Guest networks, and routers with "client isolation" or "AP isolation" switched on, hide devices from each other.
• Lights that are switched off at the wall cannot answer.

A particular brand is missing

• Govee: switch on LAN Control for each device in the Govee app. Without it the device does not answer on the network at all.
• Philips Hue: DiscoBeat talks to the Hue Bridge, not to the bulbs. Press the round link button on the bridge when the app asks, and create an entertainment area in the Hue app first — that is the only way Hue allows fast control.
• Nanoleaf: when the app asks, hold the power button on the controller for 5 to 7 seconds until the lights flash.
• Twinkly, Yeelight, WiZ, and Govee's faster direct mode: these are Labs brands and stay hidden until you turn them on in the Labs row in Settings. Yeelight also needs LAN Control switched on in the Yeelight app.
• HomeKit: DiscoBeat asks for Home access the first time you add a HomeKit light. HomeKit lights change with the song's sections rather than its beats; HomeKit cannot be driven faster.

The lights ripple instead of hitting together

Run the calibrator on each light (the camera needs to see it; a dim room helps). Every bulb has its own delay, and DiscoBeat can only correct the ones it has measured. A light the calibrator marks loose varies too much from one change to the next to ever feel tight; that is the bulb, and the app says so rather than pretending.

The show stops when I leave the app

On iPhone, listening through the microphone only works while DiscoBeat is on screen: iOS does not let apps listen in the background. Song files you own can play with the screen locked.

Flashing lights

Strobe effects are capped at 3 flashes a second unless you lift the cap in Settings → Flashing lights, which shows a warning first. If anyone in the room has photosensitive epilepsy or is sensitive to flashing light, leave the cap on.

Purchases and your account

• Pro is a one-time purchase through the App Store or Google Play. On a new phone, use Restore Purchases in Settings. Refunds are handled by Apple or Google.
• You never need an account to use DiscoBeat. If you signed in to send diagnostics, you can delete the account inside the app: Settings → Account → Delete account. What that removes is in the privacy policy.
